How to Play Lexicon

Each round gives you two letters: a starting letter and an ending letter. Type a real word that starts with the first letter and ends with the second — first to answer wins the round.

• Words must be 4 letters or more
• No proper nouns
• An invalid word costs you a 5-second penalty
• First to win 5 rounds takes the match

Shorter is better

Length earns you nothing. A four-letter word scores exactly the same as a twelve-letter one, and takes a third as long to type. When you spot a long word first, it’s almost always worth spending another second looking for a shorter one.

Work backwards from the ending letter

Far more words start with a given letter than end with one. On hard pairs — anything ending in X, K, or Y — think of the ending first and work back. For an X ending, the set is small enough to hold in your head: HOAX, HELIX, RELAX, INDEX.

Don’t guess to test a hunch

An invalid word costs five seconds, which is roughly what an entire easy round costs a good player. If you’re only half sure a word is real, the odds rarely justify it — find something you’re certain of instead.

Plurals and -ING are your safety net

A pair ending in S opens up almost any noun you know, and one ending in G opens up almost any verb. These are the highest-frequency endings in the game for a reason: if a pair ends in S or G, you should never be stuck.

Warm up before your one attempt

The daily challenge gives you a single attempt per day, and your first round is always the slowest. A minute in practice mode first is worth several seconds on your final time.

What is Practice Mode?

An endless solo mode with 3 lives — solve as many letter pairs as you can before you run out. Great for warming up before Daily Challenge or Rumble matches.

Is there one correct answer per round?

No. Any real word of four or more letters that starts and ends with the right letters wins the round — most letter pairs have hundreds of valid solutions. That’s the main difference from guess-the-word games: you always know an answer exists, and the challenge is finding one quickly.

Can I play past daily challenges?

Yes. Every past puzzle stays playable in the daily archive. Archive runs are practice — they don’t count toward the leaderboard, your streak, or XP. If you want to see what a past date held first, there are hints for every past challenge.
